A Deal and a Half

I had reservations about a refurbed laptop but this one has surpassed my expectations. Being a workstation with 3.06ghz C2D and dedicated graphics, I feel it has the performance of at least an I3 if not an I5 system. The physical condition is beyond what should be expected from a 3+ yr old unit. I had to look very closely to find even small dings or scratches...I am very pleased.

every thing i wanted

this is my first laptop i've purchased, so i wasn't sure what to expect. but i really like the speed of this dell. it came with a bigger harddrive than was described. the only thing i would upgrade is the memory, and a mouse.

I have used the Latitude model at work for years and wanted one for my personal laptop. This copy arrived looking like new and is everything I wanted. Great Performer

This was nearly the perfect laptop for me- a backlit keyboard would have capped it for me. It is blistering fast, lightweight and compact for someone who travels for a living and has amazing battery life with the 4th gen chip and the ssd. I also have the 128GB drive, found a good deal at Micro Center for $799. One comment - the plastic bezel around the top of the keyboard doesn't seat well and is and looks a little wavy, but not bad enough to warrant a return

Basically a supercharged netbook

I used to have a $300 Acer Aspire One with a Celeron 877, and this Dell reminds me much of that Acer. The thing is, however, that the Acer is a netbook and this is an ultrabook. Intel should have excluded LED backlighting from the Ultrabook requirements.Such a powerfull ans seemingly good laptop ruined by this grainy, backlit, barely HD display. Oh well, at least it moves at the blink of an eye. Oh, and I have the 128GB SSD version.

So far, so good!
I bought this new laptop to replace my previous Dell, and it just arrived yesterday. So far, so good. I was able to set it up within minutes. Using the Windows File Transfer was awesome, too, even though it took a long time to get my settings and files over. There is not a whole lot of crap on this laptop as someone claimed, either. I was expecting a lot of junk on here when there isn't. My connection to WiFi is 5 bars which never, ever happened on the previous Dell. The speed is PRIMO! I'm extremely happy with this laptop. It has not lagged one time since I've been using it (and I have 3 browsers open at all times with 2 always logged in). My youngest daughter is happy, because she is now the owner of my other Dell since her Acer died on her. It's an Inspiron 1545 model that I bought in 2009 or 2010 and still going strong. I think Dell is the bomb :-) May this one last 10x longer :-)

So far, so good

I've had this laptop since Friday, and am pleased with nearly everything. The processor is fast and responsive. 8GB of RAM is definitely noticeable. I haven't noticed any lag or stuttering during any of my tasks. The hardware is well built and feels great, much lighter than it looks. The speakers are the only issue I've seen. They are loud, but are very tinny. Sound doesn't seem natural when watching a movie.

The biggest issue is the amount of bloat Dell puts in their software. I'm not a fan of game or software demos, and there are a lot on this laptop. There is even a dedicated button to launch the game service in the top right corner. With the terabyte hard drive, these programs likely won't be noticed, but still an inconvenience to mention.

For this price, the value is obvious. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a new laptop.

It has old parts and is very heavy
If I had not been that I was in need of a replacement laptop I would not have made this purchase. I should have listen to my gut feeling and canceled this order. The screen is nice but that is all the good that I can say about the machine. Considering that it has 8 GB DDR it really isn't that fast. I was going to upgrade to and Hybrid drive like with my old machine that would give me the small SSD and a 7200 rmp drive but after checking with dell this machine as an old connection for the hard drive so of course the only place I could find a hard drive was with Dell and it wasn't any better that what is it. The track pad is a pain because if you touch it while typing you are all over the place. This machines weight is almost 10 lbs not something I can have sitting on my lap as what a laptop is made to do. Yes they use to be even heavier but now anything over 5lb seems a little outdated. Yes. I should have done even more research and trusted my gut. The worst part was that within 30...

Satisfactory but only one USB port

The computer was OK but had only one USB port which was loose and needed to be tightened before it worked. Only one USB port is not a misrepresentation -- but I would think I could assume that one could expect more than one port on a computer like this!

faulty equipment

Not pleased--after one week of use the laptop's hard drive failed completely and I had to purchase a new hard drive. With the additional costs that went into this unit I could have bought a decent new laptop.

I bought 2 of these as gifts for my children for Christmas. They arrived quickly and were in good shape. I appreciated the help I received when I called the company asking for a referral to what laptop would be appropriate. The man I spoke to took the time to help me.

Terrific service and help

I purchased a refurbished Dell Lattitude D630 from Tampa in July of 2012. It came very quickly and I was pleased that the computer was better than advertised. It came with windows 7, a larger hard drive and a RW DVD drive - all of which were not part of the deal. After making the mistake of installing McAfee (which caused all sorts of conflicts)and then uninstalling it and restoring the computer, all was great. Then in the early days of September, a bizarre problem occured where the display starting tiling in two columns miniature images of the desktop. Occasionally, it would boot up correctly but not often. The folks at Tampa happily replaced the computer for me but saved the hard drive from the defective unit which saved me hours of rebuilding the unit. And did this exchange in a week. Top marks for these folks!

Still adapting

I find Windows 8 to be a pain. Still tinkering with the touchpad to stop from linking to everything I pass over.

I really like this laptop.

I ordered two of these on for my wife and one for me. Had to get use to Windows 8 but this didn't take too long. Just got the update to Windows 8.1 and I like it. The laptop is just what we were looking for small enough to be easily transported yet has the optical drive and large hard drive. It replaced my old e-machine celeron 900 laptop so to me it is super fast. Battery life is good somewhere between 4-5 hours. Feels well built. I would buy it again. Hope you enjoy yours also!

This computer brings very good and realiable experience. HAve tested for 3 days and everything works very good, the only thing i would have a negative comments will be the brightness of the screen, but i understand that if it is touchscreen you have to put more thick cover to the screen to support this new functionality.

A fine computer

I had no expectations and this exceeded them. It's a sturdy design, windows 8 works well with a touch screen, it's compatable with my dirty old accessories.

Pretty Awesome Performance on a Budget
I should start by saying that I ultimately upgraded this thing just a few days after having it. I was in the market for an ascetically pleasing computer, with a backlit keyboard and a Core i5 processor, that wasn't an overpriced Mac Book Pro. This laptop fit that bill. I wasn't that impressed with Windows 8. Fortunately this model has Windows 7 drivers, and so that transition was fairly painless. Being an ultrabook, it was difficult to disassemble for the upgrades that I made, but it was ultimately worth it. I replaced the 32GB mSata SSD with a 240GB mSata SSD & I made it the boot drive. I replaced the 500GB Sata drive with a 512GB SSD. I replaced the 4 & 6GB RAM sticks with two 8GB sticks. I replaced the CD/DVD burner with a CD/DVD/BR Burner (9.5mm ultra slim series). With all the upgrades, i still spent less than I would have on a Mac Book Pro, and I have all the features I wanted. The touchscreen monitor, Skullcandy speakers, USB 3.0 and SD/Multi card reader are added perks. The...

Had high hopes, but your results may vary.
First off -- The general description and details/shipping for this listing are off. It obviously doesn't weigh 5.5 lbs and shipping weight can't be 1 lb. :-) The device is 2.5 lbs on its own and the shipping wt is likely the 5 lb figure with power supply and packaging.

3.5 stars is what I'd really prefer to post at this time. It's better than okay and I like it, but...
My initial experience with this unit (i5/4G/128G model, direct from Dell) was mostly positive. The build quality is excellent and screen resolution is great, but things went a bit downhill during my first 30 days. Here's my cons list with details.

"Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered.
Intel HD Graphics driver."
This problem occurs randomly upon wake-up after the screen powers off due to sleep mode.
Upgrading the driver from Dell's support site has no effect. Upgrading from Intel's driver site doesn't work ("you must obtain driver from your unit manufacturer...

This sets the standard for high end convertible laptops!
I ordered the XPS 11 direct from the Dell website, and have been using it now for four days. I had been using a Lenovo Yoga 11s for three weeks, but will be sending it back for a refund. Here's why.

The Dell XPS 11 is more expensive. I upgraded to the 256gb SSD and paid $1,249. This is about $400 more than the Yoga 11s, and most of the other internal specs are identical, including a Core i5 processor, and 4gb of memory. The reasons for justifying the increased price are twofold.

First, the display on the XPS 11 is simply the best currently available. It is true QHD, with a resolution of 2560X1440. Worth noting is the fact that the Google Chrome web browser (when installed on the desktop) runs flawlessly. This has been a well noted compatibility issue with other QHD displays, including the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

Second, the build quality and form factor of the XPS 11 is by far superior. The XPS 11 is made from carbon fiber and machined aluminum. These...

Fast Laptop but Movie Picture Quality is a Let Down

I really love this xps 11. It's fast, well-built, flexible, keyboard layout is superb, back-lit keyboard, very light, and absolutely gorgeous. I had no problem working on excel, word, and multiple windows open - without a hiccup. My biggest disappointment is the picture quality when watching a movie - it is pretty dim. I adjusted the colors and brightness but it still subpar (My sony pro 11, which is 1440p) has a much better picture quality than this. I also called Dell tech support for assistance but there was no improvement. I don't if I got a lemon but I am going to return this. I will purchase the Lenovo Yoga pro 2 as it's picture quality is amazingly clear and crisp. If you don't often watch movies on your laptop, I highly recommend the xps 11 - it's one superb machine

I am very happy with the laptop. The product looks like new, the computer is fast , small and light.
The keyboard is in very good condition. The screen doesn't has any scratch.
Notebook cover is like metal but it has some small scratch but it is normal.
I installed it Ubunto linux 11.10 and it works great ( i am using double boot Windows 7 and Linux).
The laptop has windows 7 license ( it was a nice surprise) when i bought the laptop had Windows XP professional license.

entry level Inspiron 15 laptop
This is a basic, inexpensive laptop that works fine for everyday tasks (email, web browsing, etc.). This model is made for Dell by Compal, and it's fairly compact and portable: about an inch thick and around 5 pounds. It's not a rugged laptop (all plastic), so I wouldn't recommend it for road warriors. It's a reasonable trade-off of features vs. price. In order to reduce the cost, this is a no-frills laptop, but still has enough power for most home users. Unlike the Dell Switch models, this laptop does not have a removable top lid/cover. The diamond pattern "obsidian black" finish reduces the visibility of fingerprints. The power button isn't illuminated, but there are indicators on the front left edge.

Pros:
- 6GB of DIMM memory
- USB 3.0 ports
- HDMI output to connect to an HDTV
- low fan noise, vents are on the side/rear (not on the bottom of the case)

I love my Dell. Very fast, with nice graphics. I like the textured surfaces. A great buy. I would definitely recommend this laptop.

Great notebook

This is just a great notebook...lots of storage, fast, reliable. Not as wild about Windows 8, but that has nothing to do with Dell. I really have no complaints at all about this notebook.

Amazing laptop

I bought this laptop a little over 2 months, and it's been a pleasure working with it. I bought it used in very good condition. I was a little scared about buying it used, but so far it hasn't giving me any trouble. I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this laptop to anyone that is on a tight budget.

Dell Latitude D630 notebook
We bought this computer for my sons birthday. Product was exactly as described. Very happy with our new computer. However, the box it was shipped in was way too big. it was not packaged right at all. It was bumped around alot in the delivery process. It was delivered in a timely fashion and it made it here unscathed. Proper packaging should be a priority in future mailings. But other than that, this was a great buy and the rest of the service we received was awesome:)

*within one week of purchasing this product, the screen malfunctioned. We took the computer to geek squad and also a personal friend who fixes computers and we were told it would cost over 300 dollars to fix the screen. I contacted the seller several times before the 30 days was up and they NEVER got back to me. We now have a broken computer that the seller wont exchange or refund. Total waste of money. The refurbished parts were so old geek squad couldn't help fix it and told me I had to contact dell to see...

Great Buy and Computer

This computer works just fine and the price was great. I would suggest purchasing items from this vendor, the computer came to my house really fast. I wasn't suppose to recewive it until January and I received it right before Christmas, I was suprised and happy.

Nice Rugged Laptop

Exactly what I expected - the Laptop showed some signs of wear but nothing more than you would see with average use.

The laptop fired up right out of the box and after downloading some security software and many updates, it was up and running. The battery didn't have the best life (I am not familiar with how long it should hold a charge) so I purchased a higher capacity battery for approx $21.

The laptop seems very sturdy / solid which is perfect as it's a gift for a guide who lives in a small village in Northern Nepal.

I would recommend this for those looking for a basic, inexpensive, sturdy laptop.

great laptop for what I needed

I work on servers that have serial port connections for more advanced troubleshooting since this has it built into the machine its much easier than having a usb dongle and having to look what port its on every time. I would buy again and recommend the Intel chipset for video as the Nvidia chipset is prone to failure I know I have changed out many upon many of those motherboards and I have changed out 2 for video failure in the intel side.

Nice laptop computer
After going through all the specs on various computers this is the one I decided on. I searched Best Buy, Tiger Direct, etc.. and Amazon had the same exact computer for $50 less and I also have Amazon Prime so it was a win, win. I like how light the computer is, in the past I have travelled with a laptop and the weight was a big issue. I was trying to avoid buying a Windows 8 system but then I found the app called START 8 so I decided to try Windows 8. Start 8 makes your desktop identical to the old Windows 7 so I didn't waste any time going to Windows 8. System is fast, starts up very quick and screen is very clear. Keyboard is nice and responsive. I don't rarely use the touch pad so I can't rate how I like it. I also like the battery connection to the laptop. My old Toshiba had a loose connection right from the start and didn't like it. The battery life is also pretty good. If there is one thing I could change it would be a longer power cord, it could use an extra 2 ft. I would...

A terrific computer at a good price

I am amazed at how capable this computer is. I use it for the basic functions of reading and writing E-mail, surfing the web, purchasing items on the web, paying my bills, watching youtube videos, watching DVD movies and keeping track of everything I write down on the computer.

Dell did a good job of refurbishing this 2005 model computer with an excellent operating system, Windows XP. The keyboard is excellent. The trackpad is good. The aspect of the display (similar to a movie screen) is great for spreadsheets and reading blogs. The clearness of the display is excellent.

The weight of the machine is not bad at all. It only has 2 USB ports but I use a 7-port expander to handle all my USB devices. The Kensington style locking port works well.

I usually upgrade my computers to the maximum RAM but this came with 1 GB and it has been just fine.

I have been buying Dell computers for many years and this is my favorite one so far.

I wasn't sure at first.

I got it for my 26 yr old son for a birthday/Christmas gift, I did a lot of review reading and I also had some Amazon gift points accumulated so I really got a great deal, but when he opened it he was real quiet-for a long time-and I'm thinking "crap," I got an old relic and he's trying to think of a way to let me down gently and here it wasn't that way at all. He felt bad because I got him such a nice gift and I wanted to slug him for putting me through all of that unnesessary anxiety. He's had it rough lately and I wanted something special just for him and I know he's wanted one for a long time and this is perfect and the software on it is great and he truly is really, very happy, so, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Bought this from Data Sales and Co. Excellent seller, good customer service. I had some problems with the audio initially but after updating the drivers, I have crystal clear sound.
This is a beautiful, solidly built, fast laptop with Win 7 Pro, a work horse that I use in the office; with bluetooth and integrated webcam it is all the technology I need right now. My wife thinks it is a bit heavy at 5 lbs, so female shoppers take note.

I love it and will stick with this line for a work laptop. Not ready to jump on the tablet bandwagon just yet.

Got a deal

I got this as a used computer, in good condition, which is is. It arrived 2 days earlier than scheduled, which I was glad of, but I was disappointed that it didn't even come in the factory box, but the shipper was generous with the bubble wrap so it arrived in good condition thanks to FedEx. No instructions of any kind, and I was using Windows Vista on my last computer, but in about 10 minutes I was on the web, with the computer registered, and getting Windows updates. My initial view is that I got a good deal by buying a used computer for about 55% of the new price. So as of now, I would do it again. And I was able to get a Square Trade extended warranty since I bought it from an Amazon vendor and that is the icing on the cake.

So easy to use

This is really a neat unit. Fits on my desk easily touch screen is great. Plug it in & go. Great Price fast shipping.

If you are looking for a laptop for daily operation, this should be a good one.

The computer is capable of handling daily operation. For me, I just use it to surf webs and work on Microsoft office, so it is good enough in terms of its price and performance. It is a pretty solid laptop and so far I don't have problems with it. The temperature of the computer is always cool even I keep it on 24 hrs. Another thing I liked about this laptop is its sound quality. Most laptops have very bad sound quality which the sound is very thin and usually cracks when you turn up the volume too high. Also, the keyboard is another add-on which it gives you a good response when you are tying. However, the screen is not too good in terms of its viewing angle and the color reproduction, but for this price, I am satisfied.

Powerful yet annoying
I needed a new laptop to replace my 7 yr. old Dell workhorse which was on its last leg. I'm not one to splurge on electronics and so to replace it I targeted sub $500 laptops, being more concerned about features and longevity than looks. In terms of features and longevity for the price this laptop fit the bill:
- 4th Gen i5 processor
- HDMI
- USB 3 ports
- Comes with 6 GB of RAM but it's upgradeable to 16 GB
- Wireless N and Bluetooth, both of which are upgradeable as well

An eSATA port and touchscreen would have been the icing on the cake in terms of my future-proofing needs/wants, but for the price I'm not going to complain.

In terms of looks and quality of the build:
- The case is plastic, but it's fairly rugged. I'm not worried about it cracking or breaking in the long run. Looks-wise it's black and boring - not a show stopper by any means. The matte finish does pick up grease from your fingers and so you end up with...

Very nice laptop for my needs

I am very pleased with this Dell laptop. Initial set up was smooth and subsequent additions of my existing programs went well. I especially like the textured finish on this model. Looks and feels very nice. The 17.3 display is also very nice. The only addition I added was a wireless mouse which makes it almost as complete as my desk top model which I used constantly in my business. The model runs extremely quiet with hardly any noise at all. It should be noted that not everyone might like this size model since it is larger than one might expect, but that is what I wanted for remote work. Overall I am extremely pleased so far and highly recommend this model for anyone looking for a larger laptop with plenty of power for online work and office applications.

great 17inch laptop
I've had prior experience with a 17inch laptop before; i owned a Gateway 6860fx and it was a bad experience. I hadnt used a 17inch laptop since then until i tried this Dell 17inch. After a month of having this in my possession i really like it alot; and would definitely recommend it for those looking for a mid-tier 17inch laptop for everyday use. The following are the notes i've taken in my month with the product:

-I got roughly 3 hours on highest performance setting while watching Netflix. General use, you can easily get 4hours.
-It takes roughly 1min to open from cold boot. From standby it takes like 10 seconds.
-The lcd lid doesnt have a latch or anything. Just pull up to open. Because of this it doesnt open very easily and you need to use both your hands (one to pull the lid , the other to hold the bottom down)
-The sound levels produced by the speakers are adequate.
-Very rarely gets hot on my lap, and its very quiet... even when I did some stress...

Need 17 Inches? This Is A Great Choice
This is about my tenth laptop, but my first 17", and I'm very happy. Before I go on with why, I just want to make one point about the size - it's big. Not heavy and fat (see below) but just... big. As in: I have three different backpacks designed to carry a laptop, and this won't fit in ANY of them. If you're looking for easily portable, look at 15" and smaller. If you're looking for a great desktop replacement and don't mind using a briefcase-style laptop case (or larger than standard laptop backpack) to transport it, read on.

First of all, despite my comment above, it's lighter than I thought: under 6 pounds with the battery, which is surprising indeed, and it's fairly thin, at about an inch. The charger is also reasonably-sized, which makes the entire package easy (relative to other 17" units of course) to travel with.

The case itself is great - I love the textured finish on it, and it feels extremely sturdy and well-built. There is no latch to keep the laptop...

I purchased this laptop when it was on sale for 399.99 on the Back to School promotion. Primarily if you are looking at this model you are interested in the 17.3" screen size at the cheapest price possible without moving down to the Pentium line. This laptop comes with the i3 3227U CPU which has 2 physical cores and 2 virtual cores with no support for dynamic overclocking (Turbo Boost) clocked at 1.9Ghz.

First, unless you can deal with the horrible load times I would suggest any SSD you can aquire such as Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE120BW. If you need more space for whatever reason you should get a cheap aftermarket 2.5" HD enclosure to supplement file storage. I would recommend just putting the HD that came with the laptop in this:...

Solid Laptop

I am really impressed with the build quality of this Dell laptop. It has a very bright and clear screen and the keyboard and touch pad are very good. I added 4 GB of RAM to bring it up to 8 total and it speeds through most applications. It is not meant for any serious gaming and for the price, you should not expect that. I have owned two Dell desktops, but never a laptop. I figured for $399 and another $30 for the RAM, I'd give it a shot. I could not be happier with this computer and I recommend it highly.

Nicest laptop I've had in a long time.
This review is for the i3 ultra low voltage 1.8 GHz version of this laptop. I have owned many laptops as well as bought many more for others. This laptop is the perfect blend of lightweight, speed, and screen size. Task manager shows that this CPU has 4 threads it can process at a time.

The most outstanding feature of this laptop is the keyboard/touchpad. Many lightweight notebooks have horrible keyboard and or touchpad. This chiclet keyboard is nicely spaced and not cramped. The keys have a slight indent so your fingers sit a little below the edge the of key. It's a subtle but very nice touch that you don't immediately recognize.
Also appreciate the full sized arrow keys. Bottom line: the keyboard feels great. You're not bumbling for odd keys or making frequent mistakes while typing.

The right and left click buttons on the touch pad are separate. I've seen ridiculous single bar solutions and I've never liked any of them. These independent left...

So far, so good

So far, so good. I chose it for being smaller and having Windows 7, not 8, because people much more computer savvy than I couldn't manage with the newer version. I had to buy an external DVD drive, and I wish the laptop had more than one USB port, the #2 one. It would be good for producers to leave us -- less up to date folks -- options to keep on using what we know how to use and have already. However, this issue is not a big one and overall I am very satisfied. The laptop is a bit heavy but that is because it is substantial and sturdy and had extra lithuim ion batteries which is a plus

Bought this for my Sister

This was a gift for my oldest sister, needless to say she likes, Before I gave it to her I updated every thing in it and even installed security programs, I went with comodo antivirus, it come with it's own firewall and other good things and it's free, plus I install most of my music on her computer so she would have something to listen to. Not to mention that I uploaded all other useful software such as foxit, reader instead adobe reader is just as good but smaller, also install firefox with adblock plus, chrome, revo uninstaller free version, and Ccleaner. Took me hours to do it because of windows update had like 108 updates to install also.

Loud speakers, pretty fast, nice bright colored screen, microsoft office is only a trail and then it uninstalls itself...stupid. nice app store, and xbox game store, not a touch screen but I prefer it that way. I bought mine at staples for $299 plus I bought a 2 year warranty.

I was looking for a laptop that's not too heavy, and not too bulky with a screen size of 15.3" ~ 15.6". Also, I didn't want to spend much money on it because it's going to be carried around with me outdoors. This was it! The funny thing is that this laptop has a numeric keypad, but there's no way to keep the Num Lock locked on boot. There's no section for that in the CMOS settings, either. However, I did figure out a way to keep it on by changing the registry value for the keyboard.

Another thing I noticed is that the fan kept spinning faster and louder like a hair dryer and kept spinning forever. Apparently, this is quite common on Dell laptops. Yes, but it's not normal. What's really weird was that, I was planning on swapping the RAM out with a bigger one, but, it wasn't quite compatible, so, I sent it back for another type that's identical to the original, except, with bigger memory size. Very Pleased

I received a used Latitude D820 recently and have been very pleased with its performance. The battery life is good, the performance has been robust and responsive. The only thing I find missing on this computer is a webcam. The speakers are a little tinny, but with headphones the sound is great. I like the nice large screen too! Enjoying my Latitude D820!

Great machine for certain things.

This machine is extremely durable. Despite what others might say about it running apps slowly, they don't know how to manage their OS. This machine can run any application, including Adobe Creative Suite apps well. Sure, it's not the fastest thing on the market, but it's a 2.0 dual core CPU, it's a great deal, and for any student/office person trying to save money while still getting things done, it's a great buy. The hardware holds up great, and don't let others tell you it's slow because of how they treat their OS.

Great laptop

This is a great laptop, solid, easy to use, I like that it locks when closed. I didn't find it to be slow as others have said. The keyboard keys are slightly raised, which I liked. The only minor things I didn't like was no numbers pad, so I had to use the numbers across the top, it's a very HEAVY laptop, but worst of all, the battery life was really bad. Two hours max, and it wasn't just my battery, I ordered a backup and it was the same way.

Awesome machine

I've had my Dell 6430u for about 5-months now and I am very pleased with it. I am self-employed IT consultant and travel 100% of the time so reliability is key. The machine has been completely trouble free and it is soooo light in my backpack. The battery life is outstanding (almost tablet like) so I am able to use the laptop for most of my day without dragging around my power cord. My homework on this model really paid off.

Excellent choice for work laptop

With the exception of a slow HDD, this system is perfect for those looking for work / technical laptop with Windows 7, good 1080P Video card. I replaced the HDD with an SSD within weeks of getting the laptop and the improvement in system response is staggering. The original HDD will be used as an external drive for backups and storage of large files.

Works fine, just as I needed (Windows 7, good memory, hard drive, and monitor HD)

I wanted to upgrade my HP-Pavilion (Win 7, i3, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, not HD Monitor) and most of the computers in the market were Windows 8. For the kind of work I do Windows 7 is more appropriate. This computer is just the right upgrade and works all fine for the 4 weeks I have used it . I just wish that Dell made them better looking. Compared to other computers I have had (Sony Vaio, HP, etc.) this one is the most simple looking. Before getting this computer I explored the HP Envy Touchsmart , all the same, but Windows 8 and touch screen. Beautiful stylish computer but it didn't fulfill my needs and they did not have with Windows 7 from the factory, and personally I do not like to change the configuration (Operating System, etc.) as many things (drivers, etc.) may go wrong and guaranty and support is lost.

I like its design, i.e. touch screen, Windows 8, screen size, and above all, the price is right. Only glitch is the screen glare or resolution.

Very Happy with this Computer

Only had it a month now but am enjoying the functionality, touch screen, speakers and, yes, Windows 8.1

If you want a DVD drive, and a touch screen, this is the computer to get. If you can do without the touch screen, there are lighter notebooks out there. This is by no means an ultra book, but it is relatively light and thin.

Kicks the butt of my Haswell 15" MacBook Pro
I have been a long-time user of Apple laptops. I always thought that Apple made better hardware, but I've never been keen on OS X... I prefer Linux instead.

But I bought MacBook Pros by the bucket-full over the years (at least 2 new MBPs per year.)

This year, I switched to using a Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition instead of a 13" MBP Retina. My review of the XPS 13 is here: blog.goodstuff.im/still_liking_xps_de

But the XPS 13 is limited to 8GB of RAM and I do a fair amount of Scala work, so I need more than 8GB. I went looking for the XPS 13's bigger brother.

I got an XPS 15, loaded Linux onto it and started using it. It's a really sweet machine.

Well... it's almost sweet... the 1TB 5400 rpm drive is slow, slow... so I replaced the drive with an Intel 240GB SSD drive.

And now the XPS 15 is faster than my Haswell 15" MacBook Pro for Scala development.

The XPS 15's screen is better than the MBP's Retina...

Excellent Buy!

Very powerful laptop with very high video quality, which I do recommend.
It is also a lightweight laptop taking into account their specifications.

High performance for affordable price
I bought this laptop from Dell and I got to say it's easily one of the best laptops I've used in my life. This laptop handles multitasking like its nothing, running several programs at once. The i7 technology allows me to run my software developing program while listening to music on youtube and chatting on facebook with no lag while switching between windows.

The 1080p display is just beautiful, I play movies and music videos from youtube and it looks amazing. The display really impressed me.

My favorite part about the laptop I would say is the video card. The AMD Radeon HD 7730M 2GB is not the best graphic card out there, but it's still a really good video card. I've ran several games like The amazing spiderman, Black Ops 2, Assassin's creed, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Darksiders, and many more, and they all run extremely smooth. Some may not run at full FPS on high settings, some do, but they all run very smooth on med settings. The screen size of the laptop...

Excellent Machine, base processor speed is 2.2GHz not 2.5GHz
This is an excellent Machine, very fast, with Turbo Booster 2.0 auto manage processor speed. I can run multiple tasks without delays excecuting them.
There is a model very similar to this one and almost 200.00 $USD ($736.00)cheaper, for less video and plastic back plate instead of aluminium, and keyboard backlit but more Hard Disk Drive, and 3 pounds less in weight which is very good if you carry your laptop with you. At first I thought I would have bought that one if was listed but now, after using this one I am very happy about this purchase.
No regret so far only:
1-This is advertised as 2.5 GHz, but base processor speed is 2.2GHz and I have seen mine at 2.9GHz with Turbo Booster Monitor.
2-Little heavy, 9 pounds (not really a problem).
3-Touch pad is very sensible but you can be solved with a mouse or some adjusting (not an issue).
4-I did not like, I saw this machine in dell.com website at a higher Price, and came here in blackfriday weekend, I...

Very expensive paperweight

Lets all be honest, the main draw of this machine is the 2gb video card. Dell has failed to update the BIOS to work correctly int he windows 8 environment and as such the video card does not get called if/when it should. You can do a few tricks to force it, but it won't work for games or for video editing.

The only fix I have found was the Catalyst control center, but even then Windows 8 will arbitrarily decide that the software doesn't need to work anymore, along with a myriad of other programs that are needed for most modern games (Steam/Origin/etc). When you can get a game to work and the video card to work too the game will run for a bit, but eventually the hammer will drop and your performance will dip or the game will crash.

If you must buy this laptop, go find a windows 7 version. Dell has no business shipping this as an end user device and microsoft has no business forcing windows 8 to be used when it just plain doesn't work.

Great laptop for writers!!
Overall fantastic laptop! I've had roughly 14-15 laptops over the last couple of decades and this is one of the nicest I've ever owned. I was looking for something with a good screen, good keyboard (without a 10-key) and good build quality and this really hit the mark pretty well.

First the pros:
- AMAZING screen...seriously, its beautiful
- solid construction. It is a bit heavy but I like that as my previous (lighter) laptops felt like I was going to drop them all the time. This is a perfect size to keep on your lap if you want or use on a desk. It is heavy enough that it won't move around on you if you're a heavy typer like I am.
- backlit keys are great. Not too dull, not too bright, perfect
- keyboard....now, i personally don't like chicklet (island keys) keyboards but it virtually impossible to find a laptop nowadays that doesn't have one. Usually they are too weak and positioned oddly so that you're always hitting unintended keys (cntl, shift,...

Great Product

Dell has fixed almost all the issues with this laptop and it runs great! Battery doesn't last as long as i would like it to. After first day it got stuck on bios screen but i fixed it with the other reviewer's link. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for one. No wifi issues at all!!!

Sleek and Solid Build

The laptop looked absolutely lovely and I wasn't dissapointed by the looks. It was also very fast and my colleagues were all impressed.

Unfortunately, after the first day, the laptop refused to boot and got stuck on the Dell screen at the beginning. I tried all sorts but couldn't get it to work. Finally, I browsed the internet and found that others too had experienced the same problems. Luckily, instructions for sorting out the problem were on the Dell forum - see below.

Good Cheap Ultrabook for Business Traveler- With a Couple of Notes

First the likes:
small, light, great battery life, touchscreen, Windows 8 (yes I do like it)

Dislikes:
Screen resolution is so so, keyboard is very cheap- had keys canting after less than 3 weeks.

If you are like me and a tablet is nice but need a real keyboard, this is nice. If you don't want to drag a full laptop along but like touchscreen this is a little gem at a really cheap price. Its really a tablet with full windows, attached keyboard, and a dynamite processor / package for the money.

Dell Inspiron 3135

I would like to recommend this product. I bought this from best buy, here the price quoted seems ok since I paid around $360 for this. I was looking for 11 inch laptops, tried an ASUS upfront, the 1.5 celeron equipped one, It was non responsive and was very slow in action. This looks pretty good in this price range.

I have one concern about the screen brightness and contrast. This looks something strange for me sometimes, since sometimes it brights up itself, sometimes, low light. I use Mac book pro as well, but when I switch to this for personal use, I can see a huge difference in display.

May be the power management software is not good, or the default settings for brightness and contrast is not so good.
